I announced some time ago that one of my hosting providers was discontinuing a product. There is no migration to an alternative product. The service will be discontinued at the end of May 2024. The server will be shut down.
The machine runs my mail server, an XMPP server, two relay servers, a Stun/Turn server, a Hubzilla node and the Friendica Community Forum. The affected domains are:
mail.libranet.de (mail)
chat.libranet.de (XMPP)
relay.libranet.de (AP Relay)
xproxy.libranet.de (Stun/Turn)
hub.libranet.de (Hubzilla)
forum.friendi.ca (Friendica)
forum.friendi.ca (XMPP)
de.relay.friendi.ca (AP Relay)
Over the past few weeks, I have been thinking about which services I want to move and which I want to discontinue.
For the services that are connected to the Friendica forum node (forum.friendi.ca), I will set up a new virtual server and move the services there. These are:
forum.friendi.ca (Friendica)
forum.friendi.ca (XMPP)
de.relay.friendi.ca (AP Relay)
I will not be moving the following services and will discontinue them at the end of May 2024. The decision was not easy for me. But every option I have considered either causes performance problems or is associated with a significantly higher financial outlay. To be discontinued:
chat.libranet.de (XMPP)
relay.libranet.de (AP Relay)
xproxy.libranet.de (Stun/Turn)
hub.libranet.de (Hubzilla)
The decision about Hubzilla (hub.libranet.de) was particularly difficult for me, as I have been using the service for a very long time. However, the cost-benefit ratio has not been good for a long time. The database is quite large. I would therefore need a relatively large additional server. That would mean additional costs of around 300 euros per year. hub.libranet.de only has a small number of active user accounts. I will therefore terminate the service. I hope my decision is understandable. Fortunately, Hubzilla has an easy way to move channels to another hub with Nomadic Identity.
