China and Russia dominate nuclear power push with 90% of new reactorsChina and Russia control about 90% of new nuclear projects worldwide. In 2025 alone, of the nine nuclear power plants under construction, seven are being built in China, one in Russia, and one in South Korea. China is simultaneously constructing 27 reactors and plans to reach 110 gigawatts of installed capacity by 2030, surpassing the US. The program is based on Hualong One reactors, some of which are already being exported, for example, to Pakistan.

Russia is betting on technology exports — since 2013, construction has begun on 19 Russian-designed reactors abroad, including in Turkey, Egypt, and Bangladesh.
Against the backdrop of growing electricity consumption due to the development of AI and data centers, interest in nuclear energy is returning in the West, but the US has not launched any new commercial nuclear power plants since 2013. Europe and Japan scaled back their plans after Fukushima-1 and are now losing the race to China and Russia.
