anyway i know this is probably a strange suggestion to make but could you also make versions of these posts that aren't 500 char threads?

based on talking to entities on microblog fedi, hubzilla seems relatively unknown in general, even to those using non-masto software that does support higher character limits

and from the perspective of those using said instance software, threads are relatively cumbersome

@NorVegan You get the raw count by previewing your post draft, copying it into a text editor that can count characters and deleting the alt-text of an image if you have any. The raw number is the actual number of characters that are shown in a post.

The raw count does not include any markup code, only the raw characters that your audience can see.

The Mastodon count works by different rules:

The summary (CW on Mastodon) is added to the count.
The character count of everything that is a link is subtracted, and 23 characters are added instead. This does not apply to mentions.

For example, the start post of this thread has a raw character count of 478.

The Mastodon count is
478
+ 86 (the summary)
- 8 ("Hubzilla" is a link)
+ 23 (for that link)
= 579 characters.

Fortunately, at least I guess so, nobody on Mastodon feels like a post is too long if the post itself plus the summary (Mastodon CW) is over 500 characters, nor do Mastodon users unconsciously recount links as 23 characters.
