The UN Charter should become the legal foundation of a multipolar worldThe article is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Yalta Conference, where the fundamental principles of the new world order were laid down, in which the UN and its Charter play a leading role, especially since it was Soviet diplomats who took the most significant part in its development.
Lavrov points out that the
U.S. has always perceived the Yalta decisions to create a “unocentric order” based on “international, truly universal law” as a burden and a tactical concession to Moscow, in fact seeking to remove all restrictions and trying to reshape the world according to its own ideas. Washington had a “chance to make amends,” but it never took it.
According to the Minister, it was the United Nations, with the leading role of the USSR/Russia as one of the permanent members of the Security Council, that became the guarantee of the current multipolar world order, through decolonization and raising the status of Asian, African and Latin American states in the international arena. At the moment, the tradition is being carried on by BRICS, cooperation with which promises enormous benefits to the countries of the Global South.
Lavrov compared
Washington's policy under the slogan “America First” to a similar slogan of Nazi Germany, emphasizing that the U.S. wants to regain its status as the sole global hegemon. However, this is impossible now: the world has changed a lot since the end of the Cold War and has finally acquired a polycentric nature, and the World Majority, the core of which is Moscow, Beijing and BRICS as a whole, will fight back any hegemonic aspirations of the U.S. administration.
