i managed to watch the first half of the "jolla love day 2" event, where jolla was making big announcements about their future development.
now there isn't much love left.
jolla will start to distribute their os as a monthly subscription plan. you'll have to pay per month to be able to use your phone in addition to buying the licence in the first place. but, as they said, only for the commercial parts, i.e. the android layer. since this android addition is what makes sailfish os so great -- you can use this linux phone and have many popular android apps too -- the whole combination becomes unuseable. i doesn't matter what new and glorious phone devices they plan to use, paying a monthly fee to use a phone i bought with an os i bought is out of the question for me.
i didn't really understand how they plan to deal with existing customers. so, as long as my actual phone is still working i will still use it. but i will never rent my phone's os from jolla. the next iteration of my phones then will have to be something else, it won't be sailfish.
too bad ...
