PMAC and SFposer vs AVsitter: Different and unusual does not equal worse; CW: sex mentioned, rape mentioned
I begin to understand why so many people in OpenSim don't like PMAC and SFposer.
They're only used to AVsitter because just about all scripted furniture stolen from Second Life uses AVsitter. That's all they know.
AVsitter is the standard sit animation controller in Second Life because it's open-source and thus available free of charge. And it's very convenient for content rippers. Especially copybots can't copybot scripts, but if AVsitter gets lost during copybotting, it can simply be replaced with a new free copy of itself while keeping all animations and notecards.
PMAC and SFposer don't exist in Second Life. They can't. They're largely or exclusively single-script, and that one script is not written in LSL, but in OSSL. They wouldn't even work in Second Life. If you want to have either in a piece of scripted Second Life furniture, you'll have to either convert it from AVsitter to SFposer, or you'll have to re-add all animations and re-create all positions from scratch. Have fun doing that with a piece of sex furniture with over 800 animations.
Thus, PMAC and SFposer are nearly non-existent in stolen Second Life furniture and
entirely non-existent in more recent Second Life furniture. And since everyone almost exclusively uses Second Life Furniture for everything, especially from iPleasure and Darkhearts because it either is or is implied to be new and hot, AVsitter is all they know.
But PMAC and SFposer
are different from AVsitter, they
work differently and
handle differently. And "different" equals "bad".
Some furniture builders and sim owners are already irritated out of their minds by the way the owner of a piece of furniture can edit the positions. It's actually easier with PMAC and SFposer than with AVsitter, but it's different, and so it's worse.
Another example: If you have AVsitter-scripted furniture with animations for multiple avatars, it automatically switches to an animation for more avatars when another avatar sits down. Similarly, if you have the rare, OpenSim-exclusive NPC add-on, you can rez an NPC while running a one-avatar animation, and AVsitter will automatically switch to a two-avatar animation.
The latter is not possible with PMAC and SFposer. You first have to switch to a two-avatar animation first.
The former
is possible with PMAC and SFposer as well. But unlike AVsitter, it is optional. PMAC and SFposer can be configured either to work like AVsitter, i.e. when another avatar sits down, an animation for one more avatar is started. Or they can be configured to reject additional avatars as long as there is no free sit slot for them, even though the furniture itself supports more avatar. E.g. when you're on a piece of furniture with couple animations alone, running a single animation, nobody else can sit down on it and automatically start a couple animation.
When someone who only knows AVsitter comes across this, they may think it's a bug, or at least their furniture is broken. And they'll try to fix it, even with another avatar already sitting on it and not letting them join.
What they don't understand is that it's a safeguard. Imagine you're on a nude beach, naked of course, and lying on a towel or a lounger. Now imagine some guy coming your way, simply sitting down on your towel or lounger, assuming control over it and fucking you. This can happen within seconds.
If the thought of this upsets you, and you say, "Hey, that's virtual rape," well, it's exactly that.
And it's there where this option in PMAC and SFposer comes into play.
If someone tries to sit down on an already occupied piece of furniture running a single animation, AVsitter will happily say, "Okay, then I'll switch to a couple animation to make room for that avatar joining in!"
PMAC and SFposer can be configured to say instead, "No, you can't sit down here, this is a single animation!" Or if you're already a couple on a piece of furniture with animations for even more avatars, and someone else tries to join in without asking first, PMAC and SFposer can say, "No, you can't sit down here, this is a couple animation!"
If you want to sit down on already occupied PMAC or SFposer furniture, you will first have to ask the avatar on the furniture if you may sit down. And even then, the avatar will have to allow you to sit down and switch to a couple animation. You can't force your way onto the furniture if this safeguard is in effect.
So if you want to sit down with someone on a piece of furniture, but that furniture keeps on rejecting you, no matter how hard you try: It's not a bug. It's a feature.
