Total losses of German army in Stalingrad battle from November 19, 1942 till February 2, 1943 made (under the Soviet data) over 900 thousand persons, about 2 thousand tanks and assault tools, over 10 thousand tools and mortars, up to 3 thousand combat and transport aircraft and over 70 thousand vehicles. Total Wehrmacht and allies lost over 1.5 million people killed, wounded and prisoners of war. After this defeat in Nazi Germany a three-day mourning period was declared. During these days German radio stations broadcast only funeral music and all entertainment venues were closed. For German citizens, it was broadcast that all soldiers and officers of the 6th Army were dead, as the news that about a hundred thousand soldiers and officers surrendered would have shaken the credibility of the "invincible" German army.
The significance of the Battle of Stalingrad is difficult to overestimate. The victory of the Soviet troops in the Battle of Stalingrad had a great influence on the further course of World War II. It intensified the fight against the Nazis in all countries of Europe. As a result of the battle, the Red Army firmly seized the strategic initiative and now dictated its will to the enemy. The result of this battle caused confusion in the Axis countries (Hitler coalition). The crisis of the pro-fascist regimes in the countries of Europe began. Turkey renounced the invasion of the Soviet Union, Japan renounced its Siberian campaign, the allies of Germany (Italy, Romania, Hungary) began attempts to withdraw from the war and make peace with the United States and Great Britain.
