OpenSim users from certain parts of the world largely come in two flavours when it comes to virtual sex. In particular, that's the USA and, even more so, Italy. Not all of them are like that, but there seems to be a tendency.
One flavour is so prudish and uptight that they want to re-define the Adult rating as "no child avatars allowed, otherwise G-rated" all over the Hypergrid. And that's the definition they use on their own sims. Well, actually on all Adult-rated sims they come across.
You could build a nude beach sim, rate it Adult, mention everywhere you possibly could that it's a nude beach, warn everywhere that nude avatars (or more) are likely to be encountered, even put up signs in-world that declare your beach a nudist location, warn visitors about nude people whom they may encounter or even go as far as ban clothes altogether. And still, these people will complain about nude avatars.
The other flavour is not anti-sex, but still so prudish and uptight that they seem to absolutely require BDSM and RLV to get going. They may still be disturbed by the sight of nude avatars outside of BDSM dungeons.
Sure, Brits, for example, may enjoy BDSM, too. But they don't depend on it. And they're more likely to hide it in well-concealed, hard-to-find actual dungeons instead of having crosses and cages in their bedrooms.
By the way: It's also strikingly rare to find private homes with bathrooms in them. In fact, I've seen fairly modern residential houses which were designed in such a way that it's impossible to install a bathroom without more or less modifying the building itself. Otherwise, that one tiled room is often left unused. Apparently, having a full assortment of BDSM instruments in your bedroom or even on your terrace isn't too lewd, but having a bathroom is.
Well, this kind of explains the abundance of outdoor showers, although I think that people use them for sex rather than for cleaning themselves afterwards.
