In #1904 (until 1909) #
Wiliam_Hine settled on Ellis Island and, following the path of Jacob Riis, started to take #
documentary #
photographs of the huge amounts of arriving immigrants. However, while Riis photographs had no artistic ambition, #
Hine called his photographs “photo interpretations” because he believed that he could steer their effect on the observer.
From #1907 he worked on a documentary for the National Child Labour Committee #
NCLC about the #
working conditions of #
children in factories. His work was decisive in bringing about legislation that restricted, and finally outlawed #
child_labour.
