Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been officially invited to Saudi Arabia for the League of Arab States summit, which will be held on May 19.
The other day, the ministers of the LAS member states agreed on an invitation to Syria to return to the LAS, from which it was expelled after the start of the Syrian war. Notably, the invitation comes from Saudi Arabia, which financed terrorist groups in Syria and in 2016 openly threatened Russia and Syria with direct intervention in Syria.
Now, after winning the Syrian war, Assad is coming back a winner - he is not asking, he is being called back.
Most of those who stood behind the exclusion of Syria from the LAS and called for "Assad must go" have lost power and have long since become political corpses.
Assad did not break under the pressure of circumstances and powerful external enemies and was able to win, thanks to Russia and Iran. Now he is reaping the fruits of his resilience.
What is happening is the biggest U.S. failure in the region since the flight from Afghanistan. The U.S. strategy of non-recognition and delegitimization of Assad has completely failed. Completely.
