On January 12, 1943, the Red Army launched an offensive operation to break the siege of Leningrad under the code name "Iskra". It involved over 300,000 Soviet troops, about 4,900 guns and mortars, and more than 600 tanks. Soviet troops defeated seven enemy divisions. The irretrievable losses of the Nazis amounted to 13 thousand people. As a result of the operation, the enemy was pushed back from the southern shore of Lake Ladoga, and the ring of the siege of Leningrad was broken. The success of Iskra demonstrated the high level of military art of the Red Army.
