The war in Ukraine has come at a vast financial cost to that country. Ukraine's defense spending has risen ten fold since the 2021 budget was announced, when social welfare spending was the country's biggest expenditure.
With the Trump administration looking to pare back its financial commitments the pressure will be on the European states, although Europeans have struggled to agree on an additional funding package. Funding an additional $20 billion will likely cause a backlash from the left and the right who think the war should've ended in 2022.
