When I checked the valve clearances on my #
motorcycle (20k km overdue but still within spec) I discovered that my cam chain had quite some slack.
The problem persisted after changing the cam chain tensioner to a new, original one (~200€)
Did some research and found out that BMW procedure is to split the engine and replace the cam chain.
Then I found a manufacturer from the US that makes chain links for this cam chain.
One only needs to break the new (endless) chain, connect it to the old one. Fiddle it trough and press in the master link. Didn't sound too complicated.
So I ordered everything needed and after the usual weeklong hesitation I went for it.
Took me about 8 hours in total. I even lost one chain end in the depths of the engine but was able to fish it out again.
Total cost: around 500,-€
I've been riding about 500km now and everything works as it should and the usual #
bmw_f800gs cam chain rattle is gone.
I forgot to tighten the gear lever before my test ride and lost it on the road but after a little walk up and down the road where I had lost it, I found it eventually.
Good times :)
