xenophobia as a principle regarding anybody who comes into your country is not only morally objectionable and ethically unsupportable. it also has clear practical consequences the traditional xenophobe doesn't realize. when you succeed in creating a hostile environment the foreigners really stay out. not all of them but enough to make a difference.
this difference is noticed by the economy that desperately tries to attract people to work for them, even from abroad. so the traditionally conservative election base of enterprize leaders is now complaining to their politicians about the lack of employees. i imagine conservative politicians like merz and söder here in germany to be completely confused about such requests since they expect to thrive on xenophobic tendencies here. this is the situation in germany, but obviously it is also a thing in the netherlands.
if you try to discourage immigration into your country then you won't have immigrants. surprise!
